Hi Parents,

We had a really fruitful day, full of new learning experiences and lots of excitement. We started the day by going through the meaning of the spelling words, that will be tested next Tuesday.

We read a new book today. The title of the big book is 'The Giant's Ice-cream'. We had an awesome time reading the book with different tones and voices. The boys learnt the following key vocabulary: ice-cream, doorway, breakfast, lunch, dinner, party, purple, orange, stuck, tough, strong.

We also started on Picture Graphs today. I have gone through the first practice and we tried some questions in the Activity booklet.

I have returned the Maths: Subtraction within 40 activity booklet and the revision worksheet to the boys. Kindly sign both these worksheets. Please revise for their test on Tuesday.

We had an outdoor education lesson today. I focused on teaching them the values of teamwork, being a leader and a follower, and also importance of passing the right message. We played 'Human Knot' which involves the boys knotted and having to come out of the knot by listening to their group members. We also played 'Pass the message' where the boys learnt the importance of listening attentively to pass the correct message.

I received a letter that I would have to pass the boys on Tuesday. We will be having an ice-cream party. The details are attached in the photo I have sent. Please do contribute whatever you can (from the list given) so that we can have an exciting ice-cream party, next Wednesday.

Thanks and have a great long weekend.

Dear Parents,

Thanks for taking the trouble to dress the boys in red t-shirt today and providing them with flags. They did a good job singing the song. However, they did not qualify for the performance day on August 6th. Nevertheless, the boys did put up a wonderful job. Thanks a lot for assisting them at home. Next up, we will be having a poetry recitation competition in 2 weeks. Hope we can work towards that and win.

I have returned the spelling booklet to them. Kindly complete the corrections and sign.

I have given them Maths worksheet. Please sign page 40. I have explained to them how to complete word problems. They have to complete page 42 to 44 at home. I have given them time in class to complete these pages. Hope you can help to check their weakness and correct them.

Please be reminded next Monday is a school holiday.

We completed the Financial Literacy programme today. Thanks to Teacher Sharon and Teacher Marie for their interesting lessons. The boys learnt a lot about money, savings, earnings and wise spending. We thank them for their time and efforts for the boys in the class. The boys have brought some worksheets and a little piggy bank back home. You can ask them to share the stories with you using the little booklet they have.

We have also learnt more about Simple past tense (regular verbs) in class today. The boys played games and also had group work to reinforce the concepts.

We will be continuing our Maths lesson on Subtraction within 40 (with regrouping) next week. Please note that the Maths test will be held on Monday. The topic tested will be Addition within 40. Pupils have the Activity booklet, Revision worksheet and also Non-routine questions with them for revision for the test.

Spelling test will also be on Monday. Kindly ensure they revise for both the tests.

The Singing competition will be held on Tuesday. I have told the boys that we need everyone to wear a red t-shirt for the competition. Please get them dressed in red t-shirt and school shorts when they come to school. They are expected to change back into their school shirts afterwards. They also need some props like national flag. If you do have, please let me know.

I have given them a colouring to do (SG50 logo). Please help to cut the logo in a neat circle and pass it to them. I will collect it on Monday.

3) We have also started on 'Subtraction within 40' without regrouping today. We started with the counting backwards strategy for single digits. We also did a few questions with algorithm. We will be moving on to Subtraction with regrouping soon. Usually boys get mixed up between addition and subtraction. I will emphasize more in class about being alert to the differences.

Updates 10th July 2015

Dear Parents,

We had a successful Green week with the entire collection of recycled paper crossing 7000kg. I have sent you some photos of the class efforts as well. I would like to thank the parents who went an extra mile to send the paper to school and for being supportive of the school's efforts in recycling.

Maths matters: I have covered "Addition of 3 numbers" today as well as "Word problems". There are few strategies to do the addition. One is to make groups of 10 and count. Another way is to count on. However, each child has his strengths and comforts. So they can use either one to complete the addition of 3 numbers. The other part I covered is 'Word problems'. Please ensure that 3 parts of the answers are written.

1) Number equation
2) Working
3) Final answer

I have sent you an example of a good work and my answer key as well. You can refer to it while teaching your son.

They need to complete Page 29 to 32 of Chapter 11 booklet as homework. Please also sign Page 28 of the booklet. Please take note of the comments and mistakes that he has made so that he can improve on his work.

Please also sign Maths non-routine questions worksheet.

There will be a Spelling test on Monday.

We did another session of Outdoor Education today. The boys went out to draw the maps of the field and the canteen, to show the importance of landmarks and orientation of maps.

One last request: The class has voted to decorate the classroom for the upcoming National day celebrations. I would like to make the classroom and the lockers look appealing and colourful. So I need your help to print and bring in writeups or pictures that are about Singapore.

Some suggestions:
- significant locations in Singapore (landmarks, attractions)
- symbols (Merlion, Parliament House, National Flag)
- Writeups of Historical Events

Thanks and hope to see some great work from the boys.

Thanks and regards,
Mrs Priya Chopra

Updates 9th July 2015

Dear Parents,

I have started on 'Addition within 40' with regrouping today. We have done the exercises in the Pupils' book and the activity book. I will go through the concept of Addition within 40 again tomorrow.

There is a Math and English games site that is quite good. We spent some time in class to go through some of the games. Please do allow them to play as it helps them to practise more in a fun and entertaining way.

http://www.mathplayground.com/ASB_Index.html

We revisited the usage of commas as a punctuation mark yesterday. We have already learnt the use of commas last semester. It was supposed to be a revision exercise. Most of them could still remember the concept.

Thanks and have a great time.

Regards,
Mrs Chopra

Hi Parents,

I have collected the following items from your son today: health check forms, Leader in Me activity book and Spelling booklet.

Updates 1st July 2015

Hi Parents,

We had a great Learning Journey to the Science Centre today. The boys learnt a lot about frogs and toads during the lesson. You can ask them to share their experience looking closely at a live frog, its body parts particularly the nostrils, ears, eyes, webbed feet, digits in the front and hind limbs. We also learnt about poisonous frogs and how to identify them. Pupils know how to identify a toad and a frog and tell them apart based on the physical characters. We also learnt about the life cycle of a frog and made a tadpole toy. I hope your son has shown these to you. I will be sharing the pictures with you shortly.

Due to the fact that we did not have any class time, I could not collect any forms from them. Please forgive me for that and I will follow up on the papers tomorrow when I meet them in class.

We had a CCA briefing today. Your son should have gone for the meeting and should be able to give more details about the respective CCAs. Any clarifications, please do email me and I will forward it to the respective teacher in charge.

Due to some requests, I have decided to postpone the Maths Test on 'Numbers to 40' to Monday so that you can revise with your son over the weekend.

Thanks and have a great evening.

Regards,
Mrs Priya Chopra
