Updates 29th September 2015

Hi Parents,

I have some updates on today's work.

English: I shared some pictures of things found on a beach, especially with plastic litter. I also showed them the video (very short part) of the turtle who had plastic straw stuck in its nostril. These caused the boys to understand the reasons why littering in the beach area is not a good idea. You can ask them how they can contribute. When they have a beach outing next time, you can reiterate the lesson and they will help keep the beach clean. We have done a SBA writing on this. It is supposed to be an independent writing. I gave them some points to write about. (Pls see whatsapp pic attached)

English: I could not do the activity with the telescope because of the high PSI index. I have collected some of the telescopes and kept it safely so that we can do the activity when there is less haze.

English: We read the book 'Lazy Duck' in class today. We have learnt the key vocabulary in the book and completed Page 2 and 3 of the booklet.

Maths:We are doing 'Addition within 100' now. We have done a few pages of the workbook. I have given them homework to complete. Please do Page 152 to 156 at home. We will continue with the Addition lesson once they are back.

Maths class test on Numbers to 100. I have returned Chapter 17 yesterday. Kindly revise with them so I can test them in class. The test will be conducted either on Thursday or Friday (depending on haze situation).

Haze matters:
I have returned some materials for the boys to keep in hand just in case there is school closure.
1) Lazy Duck booklet
2) SBA book
3) Oral Practice booklet
4) Maths Workbook

Other matters:
1) The Caring teacher awards 2016: Nominations for Caring teachers awards is open for the boys and parents. If you wish to nominate anyone, you can take the form from me. I would need to print and pass the form to you. So please let me know if you need the form. (Pls see whatsapp photo attached)

Updates on Haze matters

Dear Parents,

There is no E-learning work for today. Please allow your son to revise for the Writing Test on Monday. The marks for the test will be included in their final marks, so I would appreciate if you can guide them at home. They can use the SBA book, Writing Package Term 3, and Writing practice 3 to prepare for the test. Unfortunately, I could not return their last composition due to the closure of school.

For now, the test on Monday will still carry on if there is no school closure on  Monday. If there is school closure, the test will be postponed and the pupils will be informed of the changes.

Lastly, please keep yourself available for last minute updates as I would need 100% acknowledgement for some announcements. I will let you know which of the announcements need a response. Thanks and hope the haze situation clears soon.

Thanks and regards,
Mrs Priya Chopra

Updates 28th August 2015

Dear Parents,

Here are some updates for this week.

1) We have done the Writing booklet (Term 3) which includes focus on adjectives and writing a composition based on 4 pictures. I have given them feedback about their writing and would like you to read it as well. Please help them with construction of sentences and writing out a story at home, using these materials. On top of that, I have typed out model compositions for them to look at. These are taken from their classmates who have done really well. There is a page on SBA book that focuses on Introductions. Please take a look at it and guide them to write good introductions. There is a English Individual Writing test on Monday, which has no weighting. Please ensure they are prepared for it.

2) We have completed the topic of Division this week. I have returned he division test paper but I will only be going through the paper on Monday. Please sign and return on Monday. Please place all their worksheets into the respective files. I will be collecting all the files on Wednesday so I can check them over the holidays.

3) I shared a video for them to memorise the times table. This is quite interactive and the boys loved it a lot.

4) We have been doing Art for the past two days as we had a lot of academic work to complete prior to that. We have learnt about primary and secondary colours. We used our oil pastel crayons to blend the colours. Today we continued learning about warm and cool colours. We have coloured these warm and cool colours in our sketch books. There is a task that we will be working on and will have to get prepared by end of September. We need to create a magical garden with these techniques and colours learnt during Art lesson. I will surely be sourcing out for some ideas before we begin on this project. Please allow your son to bring along a spare t-shirt for him to pull over his uniform so we can work with the crayons and paint in the next few lessons. I have shared some of these photos in whatsapp.

5) Teachers' day is around the corner and thus we will be having a school holiday on Friday, 4th September. Thursday will be a short day, so please ensure that they have a heavy breakfast and pick them up at 10am. Please read the letter from Mr Goh regarding the celebrations.

6) Badminton enrichment lessons letter has been given out. Please sign up for it if you are interested.

Thanks and have a great weekend.

Regards,
Mrs Chopra

Updates 19th August 2015

Hi Parents,

1) I have marked, gone through and returned the Test on Multiplication. Please kindly sign it and file it into the tests file. I will mark all the corrections in the files when I collect them.

2) There is English Holiday homework. The format of the paper will be similar to the Mini-test next Wednesday. Kindly complete the worksheet and submit on Monday. I will mark and go through the paper before their Mini-test.

3) Beginner chess course letter given. Those who are interested to take part, please sign up for it and submit to me on Monday.

4) Please revise for English Mini-Test on Wednesday, 26th August.

5) Please check that your son has filed in his own work in his files. Simon's STELLAR booklet is missing from his file. Kindly check that it is not filed in the wrong person's file.

6) Please bring the Writing booklet, English homework, SBA book on Monday.

7) I have gone through the writing booklet with the boys in detail.

Some feedback that I would like to highlight so you can also help them at home.

- 1 idea per sentence. Our boys have tendency to write long sentences with too many ideas
(E.g. It was a hot day and Harry was walking home after school and he was too tired and wanted to have a good lunch. Instead of making long sentences and along with it, lot of mistakes, it is encouraged that they focus on one idea per sentence. It was a hot day. Harry was walking home after school. He was too tired. He was looking forward to a good lunch.)

- There should be 4 paragraphs and each new paragraph must be written on a new line, along with 2 fingers spacing.

- There should be at least 4-6 sentences per picture for them to get better content marks. They should check their work thoroughly as the more they write, the higher the chances of making spelling, punctuation and grammatical errors.

- Helping words should all be used. It will help to keep them on track and allow for better content marks.

- The story must be written in past tense.

- Checklist is a good way to ensure they are still on track. Pupils must be encouraged to check their work against the checklist. Please take note that the checklist will not be given during the Individual writing assessment.

- Finally, please ensure they do their corrections. Please do not erase their original work. If there is no space in the booklet, they can write it on a piece of paper and attach it to the composition.

I will be collecting the booklet on Monday.

Thanks and regards,
Mrs Priya Chopra

Updates 18th August 2015

Dear Parents,

Please take note of the following.

1) I have returned their Maths files with all the worksheets till Graph. Please put in the multiplication worksheets inside their Maths Files.

2) I have returned the Maths Mini-Test 2. Please sign the paper. The paper is inside their Maths Test file.

3) I have returned their English worksheet file. They should have the following items in it.
   - Poggy Frog and the Cows booklet (Please sign and complete corrections)
   - The Giant's Ice-cream (Please sign and complete corrections)
   - Poetry Slam booklet
   - Comprehension booklet (Please sign and complete corrections)

Please use the English file to prepare for the English Mini-test.

4) I have returned the SBA book as well. Please sign every page and revise for the test.

5) English individual writing test is of no weighting this term. We are currently in process of completing the writing exercises in class. I would need some extra time to guide the boys with the writing as they are still weak in sentence construction and composition writing. Kindly bear with me on this. Their SBA books are good examples of writing work done in class. At the same time, you can use their semester 1 booklets to look at sequencing and writing (4 pictures), to prep them whenever there is time.

Since they are having a long weekend (Thursday to Sunday), kindly use this break to revise for the upcoming tests. Please clear their bags of all files, SBA books so that it will not be too heavy.

Thanks and regards,
Mrs Priya Chopra
